What should a provider check before choosing an AO?
Check recognition and approval for the exact standard and version, the permitted assessment route, assessor capacity, written costs, resit and cancellation terms, reasonable adjustments and quality assurance. A standard appearing on this website is not evidence that Avenor is approved to assess it. Use the free assessment-partner comparison guide and request written confirmation before registration.
When should we engage an assessment organisation?
For apprentices following existing EPA plans, current provider guidance requires selection at least six months before gateway. Revised apprenticeship assessment plans have different engagement requirements, including engaging an AO at programme start. Check the applicable funding rules, standard, version and assessment plan; do not apply one timing rule to every cohort.
Start with a version-level cohort plan
Send the standard, start-date range, plan version, estimated cohort size and likely completion window. We will confirm the proposed route, scope and capacity before any registration. A named contact should own the handover so you are not repeating the same information to multiple teams.
Make the first submission a complete one
Use an agreed evidence checklist rather than a generic upload folder. Record what is required, which version applies and who owns each outstanding item. Our free readiness checker and evidence mapper can support your internal review; formal acceptance remains a separate decision.
Plan the exceptions before they become delays
Discuss adjustments, employer availability, technology, project windows and resit arrangements early. Our intended service model includes a clear escalation route, written fees and reasons when a timeline needs to change. Speed must not reduce the validity or fairness of assessment.
Keep communication useful
Avenor has selected the independent Meritura platform to support assessment operations. Configured role views can bring cohort milestones and individual actions into view, while provider access and live connections must be confirmed for each arrangement. No production provider integration is claimed here.
