01

Make the occupational context clear

Explain the apprentice’s actual duties, systems, constraints and opportunities to demonstrate competence. Work allocated during training should be suitable for the occupation and the plan, rather than manufactured simply to produce an assessment artefact.

02

Be involved without shaping the result

Employers have an important role in readiness and, for revised plans, behaviour verification. The relevant plan defines the exact responsibilities. You can support preparation and logistics without rehearsing live questions, supplying answers or influencing independent decisions.

03

Agree practical arrangements early

Protect assessment time, confirm the appropriate environment and raise access needs through the agreed route. Make sure the apprentice knows their support contact and how technology failures or unexpected absence will be handled.

04

Use the outcome constructively

Assessment recognises demonstrated competence; it is not a promise of a particular grade or a replacement for your own performance management. Discuss development after the result, and use published procedures if clarification, review or an appeal is needed.
